Autumn Moon Festival

United States

Tue, Dec 22 2020, 3:58 - 4:58pm

Autumn Moon Festival

The Autumn Moon Festival will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2017, on Clement Street between 5th and 8th Avenues, from 10:00am to 3:00pm. This festival is organized in collaboration by: Clement Street Merchants Association, Richmond District Neighborhood Center, Community Youth Center, the Office of Assemblymember Phil Ting and the Office of Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer. The Master of Ceremonies for the main stage will be Miss Asian California 2017, Katie Lam.

Autumn Moon Festival celebrations have been held throughout Asia for well over 1,000 years. This holiday is a time to reflect upon the bounty of the summer harvest, the fullness of the moon, and the myth of the immortal moon Goddess, Chang-O, who lives in the moon. The Moon Festival is often considered a “Chinese Thanksgiving” because of its celebration of gratitude and inclusion of abundant food – including the popular moon cake. The Autumn Moon Festival will be a fun, family-friendly event where attendees will have a taste of the cultural diversity of the Richmond District.

March with Me in San Francisco’s Pride Parade

United States

Tue, Dec 22 2020, 3:58 - 4:58pm

Please join me in taking a stand for equal rights for everyone.  Come and march with me in the annual San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade, which is the largest LGBTQ gathering in the nation.

With the current national climate that encourages suspicion and distrust of “others,” it is important now more than ever that we come together to celebrate diversity in our community.

This year's Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, June 25.

RSVP For This Event

The parade route runs along Market Street from Beale to 8th. We will be meeting at 10:30 a.m. in the Financial District; once Pride Parade organizers notify me of the precise meeting location, I will send the information to those who RSVP.  Friends marching with us will receive a commemorative t-shirt and great memories! After we march, join me for refreshments in my office overlooking the celebration in Civic Center.

Please invite your friends and family. As always, if you need legislative information or assistance with state government, be sure to contact my office at (415) 557-2312.

I hope to see you on June 25!

GET INVOLVED IN SUPPORTING BIKE SAFETY LEGISLATION

Assembly Bill 694 (Ting) would allow bicyclists full use of a lane of travel if the lane is too narrow for a bicycle and a motor vehicle to safely travel next to each other. Most roadways in California lack bicycle lanes, so bicyclists must share the travel lane with motor vehicles. This law will make bicycling safer, and as studies have shown, when bicycling is made safer and easier, more people take more trips by bicycle. This takes cars off the road and improves public health.

Assembly Bill 1103 (Olbernolte/Ting) is a bipartisan bill that would bring the “Idaho Stop” to California. For 35 years, it has been the law in Idaho that bicycles can treat a stop sign as a yield sign if it is safe to do so. After passage of the law, the amount of bicycle injuries in the state declined by almost 15%. By reducing the number of stops a bicyclist makes, research shows that injuries can be reduced by up to 55%, as bicyclists spend less time in intersections. This bill would also encourage bicyclists to use side streets instead of busier streets with stop lights, as this bill only applies to stop signs, not stop lights.
