Support AB 1947 To Require All CA Law Enforcement Agencies To Adopt a Hate Crimes Policy

With crimes against Asian Americans surging, it’s time for all California law enforcement agencies to adopt a hate crimes policy. AB 1947 by Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) will require law enforcement agencies to standardize protocols, including how authorities recognize, report and respond to hate crimes. We must bring consistency to the responses victims receive and the information being collected. We can’t have one jurisdiction treat a hate crime one way, while another locale a few miles away does nothing. That leads to an incomplete and inaccurate picture of hate in our state, which means we can’t direct resources appropriately to address the problem. Californians can sign the petition below to support AB 1947. If enacted, the bill will apply to all cases of hate where someone is victimized because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability and other protected characteristics.
