Ting Statement on Trump Rescinding DACA

For immediate release:

DACA press conference

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) released the following statement after President Donald Trump’s administration announced the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“Ending the DACA program is an incredibly cruel act that gambles with 800,000 innocent lives.  It creates a humanitarian crisis.  Dreamers know no other country as their own.  Their lives are the story of what makes America great.  Brought here as child immigrants by their parents, most have found a better life.  By ending DACA, the President is reneging on a promise to provide a path to citizenship for these young people who deserve to live without fear of deportation.  California has more dreamers than any state and they need our protection and support until Congress passes comprehensive and fair immigration reform.  Their achievements and character define them, not their immigration status.”
