(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, released the following statement in response to the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 1, which raises over $5 billion each year to pay for improvements in the state’s transportation infrastructure.
“This is a huge moment. It is a simple reminder that you get what you pay for. California’s infrastructure is old and in disrepair. We have neglected it for decades and are suffering from this mistake. We turned the page today by securing a permanent source of increased funding to invest in the transportation systems that keep our people and our economy moving. I am particularly excited to see an unprecedented investment in transit along with cycling and pedestrian improvements. These funds will free us to get out of our cars and pursue healthy, environmentally conscious alternatives.”
