(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) honored 26-year-old Justin Li of San Francisco during the California State Assembly’s 9th Annual Veteran of the Year Luncheon, which recognized veterans from across California along with state lawmakers who had previously served in the military.

“Justin is a great example for young people.  Everyone can live a life of service but it starts with a choice to seek change in people and their conditions,” said Ting.  “Justin has a bright future ahead and I know he will make us even more proud with what comes next.”

Li served in the United States Army from 2009-2012 and was deployed to Iraq for a year.  While there, Li conducted combat operations in support of the global war on terror.  He has received the Iraq Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and National Defense Service metal. On three separate occasions, Li has received the Army Good Conduct Medal.

After his service, Justin attended college at City College of San Francisco.  Last summer, he worked as an intern in Ting’s District Office.  He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in political science from San Francisco State University and is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a nonprofit dedicated to providing services for U.S. military veterans benefits, programs, community service, and legislative advocacy.

In recognition of Li’s service and accomplishments, Ting presented Li with a State Assembly resolution.
