Ting Honors Small Business of the Year

For immediate release:

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) The Hard Wear Store was honored by Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) today as his small business of the year, in observance of California Small Business Day this week.  Ting presented owner Angela Tickler with a California State Assembly Resolution in her store honoring the store’s success.

“The Hard Wear Store opened in a tough economy and thrived,” said Ting.  “This inspiring success story embodies why we need productive small businesses.  The Hard Wear Store is not just a great place to shop, it contributes to the spirit and pride of our community.”

Tickler opened the Hard Wear Store in the Sunset District in 2008 to casual clothing, notably a mixture of brand-names and unique local designs.  It has gotten great acclaim as SF Weekly’s best place to buy jeans and buzz for its SF-OG t-shirts featuring San Francisco neighborhood names like Sunset, Richmond, Mission, and Potrero.  All of these t-shirts are designed and made in-house.

“Tickler has been extremely involved in our community,” added Ting.  “Being invested in community is why small businesses are vital.  Tickler’s leadership through the Outer Sunset Merchant’s Association, including prior service as its president, has made a difference here in the Westside.”

“I am thrilled that Assemblymember Ting took this opportunity to recognize Angela Tickler from the Sunset District,” said Supervisor Katy Tang.  “Angela is a great example of a strong woman who has kept her doors open despite the challenges of running a small business in San Francisco.  She has made many contributions as a leader on the Irving corridor, and she deserves this great recognition.”

Each year, in recognition of California Small Business Day, Ting honors entrepreneurs who embody the spirit of our community.  Matt Cohen, owner and founder of Off the Grid, was honored in 2014.  His company organizes food trucks into social gatherings inspired by his experiences at Asian night markets in Japan.  Ting’s first honoree, in 2013, was Daisy Li, owner of the Moonstar Buffet.

California Small Business Day was launched in 2000 to honor the contributions of small businesses to our state.  Earlier this week, Tickler traveled to Sacramento to receive an award presented by Ting and the California Small Business Association.  Further information about the Hard Wear Store is available at www.hardwearsf.com.
