(SACRAMENTO, CA) Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) honored Jeanine Cotter of San Francisco as Woman of the Year. Cotter is co-founder and President of Luminalt, San Francisco’s only solar contractor certified as a Women Business Enterprise.
“Clean energy is the cause of our generation and Jeanine is one of the industry’s leading experts,” said Ting. “Her commitment to social and environmental change in business has resulted in good inner city jobs and clean energy in our community. By building a company with these values, she’s demonstrated in typical San Francisco fashion that you can profit while making the world a better place.”
Founded in 2004, Luminalt has designed and built more solar systems in San Francisco than any other company.
“Jeanine’s personal story makes her professional success even more inspiring,” added Ting. “Rising from public assistance to running her own company, her business creates paths for others to break into the solar industry, especially those underrepresented in the field. Luminalt was the first workforce development certified solar company in San Francisco.”
Cotter holds a C-46 solar contractor’s license, is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Solar Energy Industries Association (CalSEIA), the Workforce Investment Board of San Francisco, and the San Francisco Solar Task Force started by then Assessor Phil Ting in 2007 to streamline solar installations. Before starting Luminalt she practiced law at Fenwick & West LLP and was in-house counsel at Intuit. She is a graduate of University of San Francisco School of Law.
During the annual Woman of the Year celebration, a woman from each Assembly District is honored in the State Capitol. Each honoree was introduced on the Assembly Floor today, received a resolution honoring her accomplishments, and attended a luncheon with the other honorees and elected officials. The annual event has been a Capitol tradition since 1987 as a way to highlight the achievements of outstanding women throughout the state during Women’s History Month.
