Ting Comments On UC Regents Vote To Raise Student Tuition

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement in response to today’s vote by the Board of Regents for the University of California (UC) to raise tuition by up to 28% over the next five years.  Ting’s statement follows.

“The Regents just thumbed their noses at everyone.  Today’s vote is profoundly disappointing because it needlessly injects an adversarial tone into our aspirations for the future of higher education.  Picking a fight with students, the Legislature and the Governor was a choice and a bad one at that.  With alternative plans for UC funding and reforms available, these fee increases are unnecessary and I oppose them.”
