Assemblyman Ting addresses long lines at the DMV photo

As my constituent, I understand your frustration with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). I recently needed to replace my driver license. To my surprise, the lines at the San Francisco office were unbelievably long, snaking down the block and around the building. These were lines you’d expect to see for a popular concert - not for the DMV.

I hope you’re having a great summer. These popular community events in our district are just around the corner:

National Night Out

I was honored to be with Governor Jerry Brown when he recently signed his last state budget as California’s chief executive.

After more than 100 years of service, the Twin Peaks Tunnel, which carries Muni’s K-Ingleside, L-Taraval and M-Ocean View light rail lines between Castro and West Portal Stations, is in need of major maintenance.

The Legislature just sent Governor Brown a $200B state budget that’s balanced and on-time. As Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, I can tell you it makes the right investments while setting aside money that can help us weather an economic downturn in the future. The highlights include:

Relief from long waits at the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is on the way. Starting this month, forty field offices throughout the state will now offer Saturday service, including the San Francisco location at 1377 Fell Street.

Dear Friend,

Assemblymember Ting Gay Pride graphic As your California Assemblymember, I am proud that the Assembly recently passed House Resolution 109, declaring June 2018 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month in California.

In releasing his state budget revision last week, Governor Brown proposed to allocate $250 million in emergency funding to help cities and counties address homelessness, which has reached crisis levels in California.

Dear Friend,

Since I was elected to represent you in the State Assembly five years ago, I have prioritized making state government more accessible to those it serves. Every year during budget season, I have hosted an interactive budget town hall powered by Next 10, a local non-profit organization. These town halls give you an opportunity to voice your budget priorities and understand how spending decisions are made. As I enter my third budget season as the Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, I want to hear from you, my constituents.

Dear Friend,

Please join me for two upcoming events dedicated to your health and safety!

Saturday, April 28 – Bike Fair

Please bring the whole family to my annual bike fair, where kids of all ages will learn about safety, Safe Routes to School and legislation that affects our community. NO NEED TO BRING A BIKE. Bikes will be available to borrow. Enjoy the following: obstacle course, bike riding lessons and bike safety adjustments, as well as giveaways of: bicycle bells, helmets, water bottles and bike route maps, while supplies last.

On any given night, more than 1,300 San Francisco youth don’t have a safe place to call home. This is unacceptable. I was inspired to champion the effort to earmark $10 million in the state budget to get California’s homeless youth off the streets and succeeded in getting the funding.

Please join me at the first Richmond District Autumn Moon Festival, organized in collaboration with the Clement Street Merchants Association, Richmond District Neighborhood Center, Community Youth Center, and Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer. The Master of Ceremonies for the main stage wil
