Now that it’s September and our kids are back at school, we can welcome fall. Many cultures mark the change in season in a variety of different ways. One tradition many San Franciscans of Chinese descent observe every September is the Mid-Autumn Festival.

As my constituent, I understand your frustration with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). I recently needed to replace my driver license. To my surprise, the lines at the San Francisco office were unbelievably long, snaking down the block and around the building. These were lines you’d expect to see for a popular concert - not for the DMV.

After more than 100 years of service, the Twin Peaks Tunnel, which carries Muni’s K-Ingleside, L-Taraval and M-Ocean View light rail lines between Castro and West Portal Stations, is in need of major maintenance.

The Legislature just sent Governor Brown a $200B state budget that’s balanced and on-time. As Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, I can tell you it makes the right investments while setting aside money that can help us weather an economic downturn in the future. The highlights include:

Relief from long waits at the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is on the way. Starting this month, forty field offices throughout the state will now offer Saturday service, including the San Francisco location at 1377 Fell Street.
