Ting Comments On UC Proposal For Student Fee Increases

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement in response to the five-year financial plan released today by the University of California Board of Regents featuring the threat of annual student fee increases for five years.  Ting’s statement follows.

“It is disappointing to see the UC use students as hostages when we all agree that more deserving students should receive a world class education through our magnificent state universities.  Achieving this goal is not simply a matter of money.  It is also about the priorities of UC administrators.  Despite funding increases and more Californians submitting applications to the UC, key campuses have admitted less of our students in order to make room for students from out of state or abroad.  That sends a terrible message to taxpayers now being asked to pay more.”
