For immediate release:

San Francisco, CA – At a ceremony today in his San Francisco Office, Assemblymember Philip Y. Ting (D – San Francisco) honored his awardees for 2013 "Women of the Year." The honorees, Perla Ibarrientos (Daly City) and Mary Jung (San Francisco) were chosen from a select field of civic leaders residing in Ting's Assembly District, and were presented with a commemorative plaque at the event.

The first recipient is Pacific Asian American Women Bay Area Coalition Board Member and San Francisco Democratic Party Chair, Mary Jung.

"Mary currently serves on the Civil Service Commission and on the Board of Directors for the Pacific Asian American Women Bay Area Coalition. A seasoned grassroots activist, Mary has consistently been a stalwart community leader and advocate. On the Board of the Pacific Asian American Women Bay Area Coalition, she helped develop programs in career advancement, educational equity, health care, business/economic development, and political empowerment. Mary's leadership in San Francisco exemplifies the best in civic engagement and advocacy." Ting said.

The second recipient is "Tita Perla" Ibarrientos, Board Member of the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center and resident of Daly City.

"Perla's work with the Daly City's Filipino American community is most impressive. I first met Tita Perla at the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center where she has devoted her life to serving those in need. The PBRC offers comprehensive community services; from salsa dancing lessons to pro-bono immigration law assistance. Tita Perla has been instrumental in keeping the PBRC the heart of the Peninsula's Filipino American Community," Said Assemblymember Ting.
