Assemblyman Phil Ting’s quest to get Californians into electric vehicles isn’t limited to his work at the state Capitol — it extends 90 miles to his garage in San Francisco’s Sunset District.
More than two years ago, Ting bought a Chevrolet Bolt and made his Sacramento commute free of greenhouse gas emissions.
Ting has since become the Legislature’s most vocal champion of electric vehicles. He’s pushed legislation to plan for construction of charging stations, and unsuccessfully proposed banning the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2040.
How did going electric inform his policy aims? Ting said he learned how simple the transition could be: He charges the car only at home and work.
