Richmond District Autumn Moon Festival is on September 8

It's time for the 2nd Annual Autumn Moon Festival!  Autumn Moon Festival celebrations have been held throughout Asia for well over 1,000 years. This holiday is a time to reflect upon the bounty of the summer harvest, the fullness of the moon, and the myth of the immortal moon Goddess, Chang-O, who lives in the moon. The Moon Festival is often considered a “Chinese Thanksgiving” because of its celebration of gratitude and inclusion of abundant food – including the popular moon cake. The Autumn Moon Festival will be a fun, family-friendly event where attendees will have a taste of the cultural diversity of the Richmond District. Please join us!

DATE:                Saturday, September 8

TIME:                11:00 am - 3:30 pm

The County of San Mateo is recruiting for their Annual Civics 101 Academy. In September, Civics 101 kicks off its free nine week series of courses centered around County Government and is currently recruiting for the 2018 session.

Civics 101 is a free, nine-week program that provides participants with an in-depth look at County programs, services and finances. Participants are exposed to the workings of County government, primarily via presentations by department heads. There are brief Q&As after each presentation.

The program is open to individuals 18 and older who live or work in San Mateo County. Classes will be held Wednesday Evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM between September 12 and November 14 in locations throughout San Mateo County. One Saturday morning session from 10:00 AM to noon will also be held.

Applications will be accepted through September 1, 2018. For the application form, and more information, please click here, or contact Eric Forgaard, Civic Engagement Specialist at or 650-383-4657. Applicants will be notified of their enrollment status by September 3rd.

Rainbow Pride ImagePlease join me in taking a stand for equal rights for everyone. Come and march with me in the annual San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade, which is the largest LGBTQ gathering in the nation.

With the current national climate that encourages suspicion and distrust of “others,” it is important now more than ever that we come together to celebrate diversity in our community.

This year's Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, June 24, 2018.

The parade route begins south of Market Street (close to the Embarcadero MUNI/BART station and the Transbay Terminal) and runs to the San Francisco Civic Center. We will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. in the Financial District; once Pride Parade organizers notify me of the precise meeting location, I will send the information to those who RSVP.  Friends marching with us will receive a commemorative t-shirt and great memories! After we march, marchers who are RSVP’d are invited to join me for refreshments on the 14th floor of the State Building overlooking the celebration in Civic Center. The State Building is close to the Civic Center MUNI/BART station.

Please invite your friends and family. As always, if you need legislative information or assistance with state government, be sure to contact my office at (415) 557-2312.

I hope to see you on June 24!
