Some Californians have begun to receive their federal stimulus checks through direct deposit. This will be part of the discussion at my next Facebook live town hall on Tuesday, April 21 at 2:00 pm. You can submit questions here.

If you haven't gotten your stimulus check yet, you can find out the status of your payment on the new IRS tracking tool. Social security and supplemental security income (SSI) recipients should have their stimulus money deposited soon. Here are some possible reasons why you have not received a check:

• The IRS has old banking information: Update it here to receive a direct deposit if your stimulus check hasn't been processed yet.
• You did not receive a federal tax refund via electronic deposit in 2018 or 2019: You may be able to enter your banking information here, but have your latest income tax filing handy because you will be asked questions about it.
• You aren't required to file taxes because your income is below $12,200 for individuals; $24,400 for married couples: Non-filers can enter their payment information here.
• Your income is too high: Check income limits here.

If electronic deposit is not an option for you or your banking information is outdated, paper checks should start hitting mailboxes next week. But it could take months for some people to receive their payment because the IRS can only process 5 million paper checks per week. If you need more information, the FAQs on the IRS website may be a helpful resource.
