Please join me and District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan, as we host the Seventh Annual Richmond District Autumn Moon Festival on Saturday, September 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It'll be held on Clement Street between Seventh and Tenth Avenues, which is accessible by Muni Bus routes 1, 28, 38, 38R, and 43.
Autumn Moon is a harvest festival that has united families throughout Asia for thousands of years. It's a time to reflect on the bounty of the summer harvest, the fullness of the moon and the myth of the immortal moon goddess, Chang-O. This holiday is often considered a "Chinese Thanksgiving" because gratitude and the inclusion of food - like the popular moon cake - lie at the center of these celebrations. Our gathering includes cultural performances, delicious things to try, local vendors and more! Government and nonprofit organizations will also be there to provide information on resources, such as food security, affordable housing, and mental health.
And to commemorate the Year of the Rabbit, be sure to catch the bunny contest! Categories include Best in Show, Most Talented, Best Costume and the Bunny/Pet Owner who look most alike. RSVP for the competition online.
Big thanks to the Community Youth Center, the Richmond Neighborhood Center and the Clement Street Merchants Association for bringing the community together! We are also grateful to the sponsors whose contributions are helping to make this event possible.
Come and experience a taste of the cultural diversity the Richmond has to offer!
