As 2023 comes to a close, I am writing to thank you for your continued support on legislation that I championed this year. Your calls and emails to me, other state lawmakers and the Governor helped secure approvals on important policies that now take effect January 1, 2024. Among my new law highlights:
- Housing: Reduces delays on housing projects once environmental reviews are deemed legally sufficient; allows backyard cottages and similar structures, known as Accessory Dwelling Units, to be sold like condominiums; ADUs also don't have to be owner-occupied
- Inclusion: Enables community colleges to celebrate Lunar New Year as a state holiday; requires local governments to notify all business license applicants that single-user restrooms must be gender-neutral
- Environment: Directs school districts to purchase or lease zero-emission school buses starting in 2035
- Health: Mandates labeling of cookware if it's made with PFAS, a class of chemicals harmful to our bodies if ingested
I look forward to another productive year in 2024, my last as your Assemblymember. I'd love to hear your ideas. Please attend my Town Hall on Saturday, January 20, beginning at 10 a.m. at the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park. View details and RSVP online.
In the meantime, I hope you have a joyous holiday season and a great new year.
