My twelfth and final legislative session wrapped up over the weekend. My Assembly colleagues were very thoughtful and gave me a humbling tribute, basking in our accomplishments over the years. We solved a number of California's problems, improved lives, expanded opportunities, and so much more.
Among the bills I successfully got to the Governor's desk this year include:
AB 347: Requires the Dept. of Toxic Substances Control to enforce laws that lessen our exposure to harmful PFAS.
AB 1777: Improves public safety and aids first responders, as more and more autonomous vehicles operate on our streets.
AB 1780: Bans private California colleges and universities from giving preferential treatment to applicants related to alumni and donors during the admission process.
AB 2178: Gradually reduces the number of empty beds at state prisons from 15,000 to 2,500, which could lead to the consolidation and eventual closing of some facilities to save money.
AB 2359: Stimulates San Francisco's economy by increasing the number of neighborhood liquor licenses in some of the City's outer corridors.
AB 2401: Focuses EV incentives on lower-income Californians who drive long distances in older cars.
AB 2488: Allows tax incentives for developers who want to turn empty commercial spaces in Downtown San Francisco into housing.
AB 2669: Keeps bridge crossings toll-free for pedestrians and bicyclists.
AB 2967: Expands eligibility for teacher housing to educators and employees of publicly funded early childhood, pre-kindergarten, transitional kindergarten and afterschool programs.
The Governor has until the end of the month to act on all the bills we just sent him. I'll update you then.
In the meantime, please be on the lookout for more emails about my remaining community events. I hope you'll be able to drop by so that we can connect before my last day in office, which is November 30.
It's been an honor serving you.
