Thank you to everyone who attended my events over the weekend. We worked hard to clean up and restore the bird habitat at Golden Gate Park's North Lake on Saturday. The next day, our Bike Fair helped folks get ready to take more rides, as the nicer weather entices us to enjoy the outdoors. For San Francisco students, it was a great primer to Bike and Roll To School Week, as they learned about safety, received free helmets, got their bikes tuned up, and more.
I chose A.P. Giannini Middle School to host the Bike Fair to highlight the upgrades that were recently completed with the $5 million in state funding I championed for them a few years ago. With that funding, they were able to update their auditorium, gym, locker rooms, bathrooms and hallway lighting. All of it looks great, and the kids will have a better overall educational experience at this campus.
We also got a chance to stop by the groundbreaking of Japantown's Peace Plaza renovation project. If you recall, I secured $6 million from the California Budget to ensure the work gets done as envisioned. Cost overruns had threatened to impact the original design plans. Now, we can look forward to the new community space in about 18-24 months!
My next event is the Budget Town Hall. It's Thursday, May 16 at Argonne Elementary, beginning at 5 p.m. I will be giving an update on the state's finances, plus I will take the opportunity to recognize our Assembly District's Women of the Year. You can RSVP for the event here.
Hope to see you again,
