Happy Pride Month! Please join me in what will be my last San Francisco Pride Parade as your Assemblymember. This joyous celebration of the LGBTQ+ community will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024.
I've proudly supported and fought for LGBTQ+ rights throughout my career as a public servant. I signed the first same-sex marriage license legally recognized by the state of California back in 2008. I also championed laws ensuring equal restroom access, greater civil rights protections for individuals facing discrimination at businesses, hate crime policy requirements at all law enforcement agencies throughout the state, and more.
On top of that, I secured state funding for San Francisco's National LGBTQ Center for the Arts, the Harvey Milk and Eagle Plazas, and the GLBT Museum to preserve and honor the community's history.
It's unfortunate there are efforts across the country to thwart the progress we've made in the name of equality and inclusiveness. But, marching in the parade together is one way to openly stand with members of our community and celebrate our diversity.
The parade route begins south of Market Street (close to the Embarcadero MUNI/BART station) and runs to San Francisco's Civic Center. We will be meeting at 10 a.m. in the Financial District. Once Pride Parade organizers notify me of our precise meeting location, I will email the information to those who RSVP. Anyone marching with us will receive a commemorative t-shirt and take home great memories.
Invite your friends and family! A free lunch will be served at a nearby, outdoor reception, co-hosted by your San Francisco delegation: me, Senator Scott Wiener and Assemblymember Matt Haney. The location will be provided to marchers at the end of the parade.
I look forward to seeing you all on June 30!
