Highway, road closures and Muni Changes

San Francisco is pleased to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit this November. As the Bay Area welcomes dignitaries and economic leaders from all over the globe to experience the beautiful city of San Francisco, security for the summit will create both transit and traffic closures and changes. We want to make sure you are informed and make the necessary preparations to ensure that it does not negatively affect your commute.

The U.S. Secret Service recently designated the APEC summit as a National Special Security Event, requiring heightened security measures in and around the city of San Francisco.

Therefore, in cooperation with the California Highway Patrol, and in coordination with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, Caltrans is implementing enhanced safety measures throughout our highway systems in and around San Francisco November 15 - 17, 2023. This will mean on and off ramp and lane closures on I-80 as well as closure of Vista Point to the north of the Golden Gate Bridge. You may read more at 511 SF Bay.

Please expect significant traffic congestion and increased ridership on BART and Muni due to these closures. While BART and Caltrain schedules will remain the same during APEC there will be street closures, security checkpoints, and reroutes for Muni bus and train lines, including the Central Subway.

San Francisco MUNI will also close the Chinatown-Rose Pak Station and Union Square-Market Street Station of the Central Subway. In addition, several bus lines will be rerouted

Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as regional leaders work to ensure the success of the APEC 2023 summit and the safety of our community.
