April is a time to reflect on our relationship with our planet. Whether we see plastic bottles littering our oceans, storms getting more intense, or cars polluting our air, many individuals are concerned about the impact our lives are having on the environment, including me.
Join me in making a difference later this month. On Saturday morning, April 27, my team and I will roll up our sleeves with the Golden Gate Bird Alliance to help restore the habitat at Golden Gate Park's North Lake. Free t-shirts and refreshments will be available. The next day, April 28, I am hosting my annual Bike Fair at Giannini Middle School. Active transportation is a great way to reduce our carbon footprint. Learn to ride a bike, get a bike tune-up and more. Go to my website to RSVP for these events.
We must recognize the work toward sustainability is yearlong, though. I have championed several pieces of legislation over the years that keep California at the forefront of impactful environmental policies, including faster adoption of electric vehicles, removal of PFAS chemicals from certain products to protect our soil and drinking water, and increased access to recycling sites for beverage containers.
This year, I have proposed several more bills to keep our progress going. Among the highlights:
- AB 2244: Prohibits the use of BPA/BPS in paper receipts, maximizing our ability to recycle, and decreasing the environment's exposure to the harmful chemical
- AB 2401: Increases clean car rebates to target lower-income, high-mileage drivers
- AB 2669: Bans bridges from assessing tolls on pedestrians and bicyclists to keep encouraging people to use pollution-free transportation options
Together, we can make our planet healthier.
