2024 is off to a great start. Year after year, I've secured state funding for improvements in our Assembly district and other projects in the City to improve the lives of residents. It's gratifying to see when they're completed and ready for public use.
Last month, I attended the ribbon-cutting of Lake Merced South, marking the end of the Phase One renovation. California invested $1 million for a new fitness court, picnic tables and benches. ADA and landscaping upgrades were also implemented. I hope you get a chance to check it out.
Over on the Westside, firefighting capabilities greatly improved - thanks to another $1 million I championed for the San Francisco Fire Department. They bought a hose tender dedicated to a part of the City that lacks sufficient infrastructure when disaster strikes. It's essentially a mobile fire hydrant that can be crucial during serious emergencies when above ground water sources are needed. The demonstration was impressive.
And more projects are underway! I kicked off the rehabilitation of Kinmon Gakuen, a historic 114-year-old Japanese language school in Japantown. The $4.5 million I advocated for will upgrade and transform the auditorium into a premiere community event space. The state investment shows California's continued commitment to its Asian American Pacific Islander communities.
I hope to share more good news soon.
