Every year, Assemblymembers can name an organization as their district's Nonprofit of the Year. For 2024, I chose Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center (PBRC) in Daly City because of their dedication to empowering the Filipino community they serve. I proudly honored them at the State Capitol this week.
In their native language of Tagalog, "Bayanihan" refers to the spirit of cooperation and unity. The idea is for people to work together toward a common goal, especially in times of need - without expecting anything in return. Since 1989, PBRC has been doing just that: improving the lives of others through education, services, fitness classes and more. When this kind of support is available, people have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
As your representative in Sacramento, one of my priorities has been to address the needs of California's Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). But the state cannot do it alone. We are fortunate to have such a tireless and committed organization as part of our Assembly District.
With community partners like PBRC, bayanihan lives on.
