Gung Hay Fat Choy! It's the Year of the Dragon, and in Chinese culture, the mythical creature symbolizes strength, wisdom, good fortune and success. I hope all these things are true for you and your family this coming year.
I began celebrating the Lunar New Year with other Asian American Pacific Islander leaders at the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington D.C. Now, I want to commemorate the occasion with you.
First, drop by the Ocean Avenue Lunar New Year celebration this Saturday, February 17, from Noon to 3 p.m. There will be lots of food, entertainment and activities for all ages at Unity Plaza.
Then, join me at the annual San Francisco Lunar New Year Parade. It's Saturday, February 24, starting at 5:15 p.m. This year, award-winning actress and producer, Awkwafina, is our Grand Marshal. Here's the parade route to seek the best place to watch.
And finally, on Friday, March 1, you can attend the state's Lunar New Year Celebration I am hosting alongside State Treasurer Fiona Ma, State Controller Malia Cohen, Senator Scott Wiener, and Assemblymember Matt Haney.
The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. and include free entertainment, snacks and tea.
