With Earth Day approaching, it's time to once again reflect on the changes we can make to reduce our impact on the environment. Perhaps we no longer buy single-use plastic beverage containers, or we take public transit, walk or bike to places to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions.
This legislative session, I am championing three bills to move us toward sustainability:
- Zero-Emission School Buses (AB 567): Requires new school buses to be zero-emission by 2035
- Higher EV Rebates For Gasoline Super Users (AB 1267): Creates an incentive program for Californians who drive gas guzzlers to switch to electric vehicles
- Reducing Paper Receipts (AB 1347): Gives consumers a choice of receiving a paper receipt, an e-receipt or no receipt when making a purchase, saving millions of trees each year
If you're looking to do something in the community on Earth Day, I invite you to join my team on Saturday, April 22, to volunteer with the Golden Gate Audubon Society. From 10 a.m. to noon, we will work to restore the habitat at Golden Gate Park's North Lake, removing invasive plants and maintaining the gardens for migrating birds.
We are meeting at Chain of Lakes and JFK Drive. Be sure to dress warmly and wear closed-toe shoes. Gloves and equipment will be provided. Just RSVP on my website and receive a free t-shirt at no taxpayer expense!
We must not let up on our efforts to combat climate change. Together, we can make in impact to ensure Earth stays healthy for generations to come.
