Our state has some of the worst air quality in the United States - and the decline will only continue unless we step up our efforts. California Clean Air Day is coming up on October 2, 2024, and it's an opportunity to come together to educate and empower residents on the things we can do to reduce pollution.
If you're a nonprofit, healthcare provider, school, or business looking to get involved, Clean Air Pledge Microgrants of up to $1,000 are available to help you host a California Clean Air Day event. The funds are typically used for food and refreshments, city permitting costs, activity materials, tables and chairs. The goal is to raise awareness that will contribute to cleaner air and engage at least 100 participants. Visit the website below for more information. Applications are due July 26.
California Clean Air Day was founded on the idea of collective action to make a difference. Last year, more than 16,500 Californians took action, ranging from changing air filters to using public transit for a day. On a grander scale, events included tree planting, festivals, youth art contests, and bike or walk to school day.
It's critical we keep pushing for cleaner air to ensure the health of our communities. The American Lung Association recently gave 29 out of 58 counties in California an F grade for poor air quality. Vehicle gas emissions, agriculture, wildfires, fossil fuels, and household energy consumption are all contributing factors to our daily dose of air pollution.
With the help of microgrants, we can make a difference and improve the air we breathe.
